Biography
Almost no one was surprised when Cathy Whitt decided to open her own decorating business after a 15-year career in Corporate Finance. "I have always had a talent and an interest in art”, explains Cathy, "and in particular, its practical application as expressed through interior decorating.” She is now fulfilling her lifelong dream of operating her own interior decorating business in association with the national decorating franchise Decor&You®.
A graduate of Towson University with a B.S. in Business, Cathy holds both M.B.A. and M.S.F. degrees from Loyola College in Maryland. In conjunction with her degree programs, Cathy signed up for every art class she could and when she finished her formal education, she continued to take classes in her spare time. Her artistic interests led her to further study at The Maryland Institute College of Art, Towson University, The Torpedo Factory Art Center, and The Smithsonian. Now she teaches others at decorating seminars at Prince George’s Community College in Laurel. Cathy is also a graduate of the Decor&You extensive training program conducted by its founders, who together represent over 40 years of decorating experience, and other experts in the fields of sales, color and design.
As Cathy notes, "I have always been very sensitive to my environment and am a believer that one’s environment can ultimately have a significant effect on one’s outlook on life. My former co-workers used to sometimes tease me about the care that I took in decorating my own offices and cubicles! Actually, Decor&You’s advertising campaign, Love the Space You’re In, alludes to the influence our environments can have on us – particularly, in our homes and our work spaces.”
